Monsoon Haboob Halts Phoenix Sky Harbor Flights, Cripples Terminal 4
A massive haboab struck Phoenix on Aug. 25, 2025, forcing a ground stop at Sky Harbor and ripping the roof off Terminal 4. Winds gusted to 70 mph, leaving the airport in darkness and causing cascading delays. Airport crews scrambled to assess damage and get flights moving again. Power outages and reduced visibility plagued the whole metro area. The event is being called one of the strongest monsoon‑season storms of the year.
